The Cathar mysteries and the Knights Templar—a forbidden love and a cruel Church. Will one man’s passion become the Inquisition’s prey?
At the dawn of thirteenth-century England, Morvran ab moel Llywarch straddles two worlds. A scholar, the Welsh Noble finds peace in spirituality and books and manuscripts—but he is also known as Capuche, the leader of the mystical Cathar sect while working for the Catholic Church—a dangerous enemy of the Cathars.
When he falls in love with a female Clergy member, an irreversible chain of events sets in motion that puts both their lives in mortal danger. Not only their illicit love but his acts as Capuche, the Cathar leader, raiding churches and wealthy Clergy to help a suffering population, brand him and the Cathars heretics and enemies of the Church and provoke the terrible wrath of the all-powerful Bishop of Winchester, Peter la Roche.
In this color-illustrated narrative of actual people and events, can Morvran battle the savage brutality of the Catholic Church and escape the Inquisition without losing his beloved, his sect, and his life?
Author Hotse Langeraar vividly puts the thirteenth-century feudal world into perspective as he explores themes of esoteric Cathar knowledge and Church corruption, depravity, and hypocrisy.
Through one man’s gripping journey, the story of a ruthless Church and the Albigensian Crusade, the grace of the Cathar doctrine, the power of the Knights Templar, and an abused and battered population come to vibrant life.

Capuche: A Medieval Tale of a Forbidden Love and a Barbaric Church — a historic novel
Here comes a historic saga of corruption and betrayal in the dark days of early 1200s England. A medieval narrative of forbidden love and the search for a better life — and a Catholic Church determined to destroy both.
The chronicle is based on actual personalities and events and immerses the reader into the world of the early middle ages.
It is a story of hope and passion but also a tragedy — a tale of sorrow and cruelty and of a love which could not be crushed.
Sir Morvran ab moel Llywarch
The ancient crest of the House of Llywarch, whose origins date back to Llywarch Hen (c.534 – c.608) — Poet/Bard and Prince of the Celtic Briton realm of Rheged — the Old North.
Meet Morvran ab moel Llywarch, aka Capuche, a Welsh Noble and a Cathar as he becomes the Church’s greatest antagonist while at the same time working for the dangerous, brutal and powerful Peter des Roches, Bishop of Wintanceastre. It is in this capacity he meets Lady Margaret L’Estrange, as Sister Maria — a nun.
As their friendship flourishes, their attraction turns into an irresistible force, but at great peril to both and wrought with danger. However, they know no defense against a love like theirs.
Lady Margaret L’Estrange — Sister Maria
The House of L’Estrange and Lady Margaret L’Estrange’s crest. Originally from Northern France, the great-grandfather crossed the channel in 1066 with William the Conqueror and was rewarded land, property, and great wealth for his loyalty.
Lady Margaret L’Estrange entered Campsey Priory in 1196 and changed her name to Sister Maria. As the Chantress of the convent, overseeing literature and documents, she came to know Morvran as he purchased parchments in the neighboring village.
Their friendship evolved into an intense attraction and disturbed her meditative and quiet life, which turned irreversibly from then on.
The Cathar Cross
Reminiscent of Raymond de Toulouse’s crest (gold on red field), the Cross symbolizes the Cathar mysteries, culture, and lifestyle as it appeared in the 12th and 13th century Languedoc, Southern France, and England.
Morvran immersed himself in the Cathar teachings and became one of their leaders, known as Capuche. The Catholic Church facing mass desertions to the Cathars, deviced ever more drastic, violent and vicious measures eradicating the Cathar heresy.
Morvran working for the Church and secretly leading the Cathars was privy to the cruel methods and practices of Church and Inquisition. Seeing a population abused and tormented, he decided to take action and even the scales.
As Capuche he undertook raids on Churches and wealthy Clercy and distributed the spoils to an oppressed and battered people — and in turn triggered the terrible wrath of the Catholic Church.
