Hank and Josie own a small nursery in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Josie has worked hard making and selling wreaths to make money to buy Christmas presents for their kids. Two days before Christmas, while she is collecting pine cones for her wreaths, she finds a woman named Helen lying in the woods behind her house. She is bruised and beaten but won’t let Josie call for help. Helen allows Josie to take her inside her home, where Helen meets Josie’s husband, Hank, and their daughter, Mabel. Josie notices Helen’s strange, old-fashioned clothes and wonders where she came from. While talking about Josie’s son, Billy, Helen suddenly disappears. Was Helen a ghost?

A Christmas Mystery depicts a family struggling to keep their home, the family farm, and the life they’ve built from years of hard work. Christmas is just around the corner, and Hank and Josie are about to default on their mortgage. The future looks grim, but does Helen’s appearance portend a brighter future? Will Helen bring them the Christmas miracle they are hoping for?

As Josie investigates the stranger who visited her, she discovers a connection to Helen and wonders why Helen cannot rest in peace. Was she the victim of domestic violence? The bruises on Helen’s body would indicate she was, and if so, is that how she died? Had she been murdered!?
