60 beautiful, inspirational painting projects provide inspiration for the watercolor artist.
The Watercolour Sourcebook is a compilation of four selected titles from the What to Paint series, chosen specially to illustrate numerous scenes that can be conveyed in watercolour.
The works of four master watercolourists – Geoff Kersey, Terry Harrison, Peter Woolley and Wendy Tait – are brought together in a collection of 60 beautiful, detailed projects on the subjects of trees, woodlands and forests; landscapes; hills and mountains and flowers respectively. Each project results in a full painting that is accompanied at the end of the book by a full-size outline that can be copied and applied to the artist’s own watercolour paper using tracedown.
The Watercolour Sourcebook aims to provide a wealth of inspiration to the painter who struggles to decide upon their subject matter, and arms the artist with everything they need to know about what they’re about to paint, from colour palette to useful techniques.

With so many beautiful paintings to choose from, you will find yourself returning to this fabulous resource time and time again. The paintings include:
Millstream Cottage
Terry Harrison
You might recognize this cottage from another painting, John Constable’s The Hay Wain. This is Willy Lott’s cottage next to Flatford Mill in Suffolk, UK.
Cornish Harbour
Terry Harrison
When choosing a scene to paint, it is not necessary to have an idyllic subject – we paint things that remind us of happy memories or a favourite holiday destination.
The Village Gossips
Terry Harrison
This charming thatched cottage is in the heart of Hampshire, UK, near Andover. The cottage garden is just bursting with summer flowers and colour, so much so that they almost swallow the cottage, leaving just the roof and windows like eyes peering out of the foliage.
Pink and White Roses
Wendy Tait
These are some of the many roses in my garden, which I love painting. I have used extensive negative painting to create the shapes of the leaves by painting a darker blue behind them.
Sweet Peas
Wendy Tait
These flowers have a very short life, which is a very good reason for painting them, as their beauty is so fleeting.
Oriental Poppies
Wendy Tait
This is a large, flamboyant subject and I painted the flowers life-size with larger brushes to give me a looser, freer style.
Kensington Gardens
Geoff Kersey
In this scene, I have depicted an early morning mist. The figures add a splash of colour and also an important perspective element.
Woodland Reflections
Geoff Kersey
I spotted this subject while driving over a bridge in the New Forest.
Autumn at Chatsworth
Geoff Kersey
Although I was attracted to this scene by the rich autumn colours, the main appeal of it was the way the trees frame the distant church.
The Weather in the Hills
Peter Woolley
It goes without saying that mountains and hills can be dangerous places. The weather can turn very suddenly from being fine and clear one minute to wet, cold or snowy the next.
Hills and Lakes
Peter Woolley
Where there are hills, you will find water and many of the mountainous regions of the world also feature beautiful lakes. This is a view looking down the length of Ullswater from Watermillock near its northern end.
The Illusion of Space
Peter Woolley
This is the view looking down upon Black Lough in The Gap of Dunloe, Killarney National Park, Ireland.
