Welcome to the fabulous Pink Mingo Hotel and Casino, a tourist destination known round the galaxy for glamour and luxury. The Pink Mingo, indeed, the entire colony on the planet Vogus, has modeled itself after third hand (and somewhat muddled) reports of a certain famous gambling city on the quarantined planet Earth. But beneath the veneer of glitz, social unrest is brewing between the planet\u2019s two species.<\/p>\n

Into this bubbling cauldron steps an unlikely hero, Pelham G. Totleigh. His species, Haplors, are smaller than most others in the galaxy. And, as his Aunt Agutha constantly reminds him, he is hardly the smartest or most industrious of Haplors. When Pelham tries to intervene in a friend\u2019s false arrest, things quickly spin hilariously out of control. Fortunately, his faithful valet Blandings has enough brain power for both of them.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a laugh-filled adventure as Pelham and Blandings try to extricate everyone from trouble, strike a blow for justice, and prove to Aunt Agutha that Pelham isn\u2019t a complete idiot.<\/p>\n

Q & A with the Author<\/p>\n

Q. What inspired you to write Viva Lost Vogus?
A. When I was writing Murder on the Girsu Express, book 5 of the Galactic Detective Agency, Pelham and Blandings were introduced as the guest stars of the story. I loved writing for them so much, I decided to spin them off in an adventure of their own.<\/p>\n

Q. How is this book different from a Galactic Detective Agency book?
A. The biggest difference is that it doesn\u2019t have Gabriel Lake or any of the GDA gang, though it is set in the same universe with some of the same plus some new alien species. Also, it\u2019s not a mystery. There are secrets and things to be revealed but no murder. And while the GDA books are written for the most part in first person from the perspective of Gabriel Lake, Viva Lost Vogus is written in third person. I needed to do that so other characters could describe the non-human Pelham and Blandings and because Pelham is a bit too scatterbrained to narrate everything by himself.<\/p>\n

Q. Where did you get the inspiration for Pelham and Blandings?
A. They are an homage to Jeeves and Wooster written so marvelously by P.G. Wodehouse in the last century. If you don\u2019t know who they are, check out the 1990s British TV show by that name, acted wonderfully by a young Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry. Last time I checked they were on YouTube. The P in P.G. Wodehouse, by the way, was Pelham. And Totleigh Towers and Blandings Castle were settings for some of the stories.<\/p>\n

Q. Exactly how clueless is Pelham? Sometimes he seems quite perceptive.
A. Pelham isn\u2019t clueless so much as he is scatterbrained and easily distracted. He can be quite astute at times, especially concerning people. Or not.<\/p>\n

Q. Will Gabriel Lake and the Galactic Detective Agency be back?
A. Oh yes. I am already working on book 7, Trouble in Paradox, in which, through a chrono drive accident, Gabe and the gang get stuck in 1943 Indianapolis. That should be out in late summer or early autumn 2023.<\/p>\n

Q. Will there be more Pelham and Blandings?
A. Yes. I don’t have a title yet, but I have an idea. Look for it in the spring of 2024. <\/p>\n
